Claude for teams: how to set it up for your company

What it takes to use Claude across a whole team, from the plan to the connections. Each building block gets its own part in this series.

Short answer. Claude for teams means your company uses Claude on a shared Team or Enterprise plan, with organisation-wide instructions, shared projects, skills and connections to your own systems, managed by an Owner. NUVAI sets that up on your own accounts, in a two-week Kickstart.

From separate accounts to one workspace

In many companies it starts with a few people who each pay for their own Pro account. That works for one person. For a team you lose the overview: who uses it, where the chats are, who pays, and what happens to an account when someone leaves.

A Team or Enterprise plan from Anthropic puts everyone in one organisation. According to the pricing page, Team has central billing, single sign-on, domain verification, admin controls for connectors, usage analytics, spend controls, organisation-wide skills and organisation instructions. On Team and Enterprise, chats are not used to train models by default. Your company is the controller and Anthropic is the processor.

A team plan is not a bigger subscription. It is a shared workspace with an owner.

The building blocks

The plan. Team is for 2 to 150 people. Enterprise starts at 20 seats and adds, among other things, SCIM, audit logs, custom data retention and the Compliance API. Which plan you need is covered in Claude Team or Claude Enterprise: what do you actually need?

Organisation instructions. The pricing page lists them under Team: instructions that apply to everyone in the organisation. We use them to set out your tone and your language, for example, so that no colleague starts from a blank page. A separate part on this follows.

Skills. Fixed ways of working that Claude can apply, such as your house style or the structure of a proposal. Team lets you deploy skills across the whole organisation. A separate part on this follows too.

Connections. Team has connectors for Google Drive, Gmail, Calendar, GitHub, Microsoft 365 and Slack, among others. Through MCP, an open standard, you can connect other systems as well, such as your CRM. An admin decides which connectors are switched on. How we set up connections is on our Claude page. Separate parts on Microsoft 365 and on meeting notes follow.

Administration and data. Team has the roles User, Admin, Owner and Primary Owner. The Owners manage billing and seats. Decide before you start who gets those roles and who may see which data. A part on the GDPR and the data processing agreement follows.

Rolling out in two weeks

We roll out Claude in a two-week Kickstart. We choose three to five processes with you, set them up on your own accounts and record a baseline of how those processes run today. Connections start read-only. Write access comes only where you approve it. The settings, the documentation and the rights are in your name. What those two weeks look like in detail is the subject of a later part.

Choosing and measuring

Before you choose a plan, you want to know whether Claude fits alongside what you already use. We have already set Claude, Microsoft 365 Copilot and ChatGPT Business side by side in Claude vs Copilot vs ChatGPT. Later in the series come a baseline, to see what it delivers, and the question of how to choose someone to set it up for you.

Frequently asked questions

What does Claude for teams mean?

Your company uses Claude on a shared Team or Enterprise plan from Anthropic, with organisation-wide instructions, shared projects, skills and connections to your own systems, managed by an Owner.

Which plan do I need, Team or Enterprise?

Team is for 2 to 150 people. You need Enterprise for SCIM, audit logs, custom data retention or the Compliance API, among other things, and it starts at 20 seats. The first part of the series covers this in detail.

How much does Claude cost for a team?

A Standard Team seat costs $20 per month billed annually or $25 billed monthly, US list prices excluding tax. Enterprise costs $20 per seat per month plus usage at API rates, billed annually.

Does Anthropic train on our team's data?

For Team and Enterprise Anthropic states "None by default". Your company is the controller and Anthropic is the processor. Thumbs up or down feedback can still be used unless an Owner turns it off.

Does Claude work with Microsoft 365?

Yes. Team has a Microsoft 365 connector, alongside connectors for Google Drive, Gmail, GitHub and Slack, among others. An admin decides which connectors are switched on.

Can we log in with single sign-on?

Yes. Single sign-on and domain verification are listed under Team on the pricing page. Creating and removing users automatically through SCIM is Enterprise only.

How long does a rollout take?

At NUVAI the first rollout runs as a two-week Kickstart, with three to five processes on your own accounts. The first workflow goes live within 72 hours of your users being provisioned.

Who manages the workspace?

The Owners and the Primary Owner. They manage billing and seats. There is only one Primary Owner, and it can be a service account. Decide before you start who that will be.

The next step, if you want one
