Short answer. For a team of 2 to 150 people, Claude Team is usually the right plan. You need Enterprise if you want users created and removed automatically through SCIM, if you have to produce audit logs, or if you want to set your own data retention. If you buy Enterprise yourself, you start at 20 seats, on an annual contract, with usage at API rates on top of the seat price.
Three questions that decide it
How many people will use it? Anthropic describes Team as being for 2 to 150 people. Above 150 seats you move to Enterprise. You can buy Enterprise yourself from 20 seats, or through Anthropic's sales team from 50.
What administration do you need? Team already has single sign-on, domain verification, central billing, admin controls for connectors, usage analytics, spend controls and organisation-wide instructions. SCIM, audit logs, the Compliance API, custom data retention and role-based access appear on the pricing page under Enterprise only.
How do you want to pay? Team is paid monthly or annually by credit card. Enterprise runs annually, with a fixed price per seat and your usage on top. If you want to pay by invoice or in a currency other than the dollar, that goes through sales.
The prices side by side
Everything below comes from Anthropic's official pages, read on 27 October 2026. These are US list prices excluding tax. Anthropic itself says that price, currency and tax vary by region.
| Team Standard | Team Premium | Enterprise | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who it is for | 2 to 150 people | 2 to 150 people, for those who use Claude heavily | From 20 seats self-serve, from 50 through sales |
| Price per seat, billed annually | $20 per month | $100 per month | $20 per month, billed annually |
| Price per seat, billed monthly | $25 per month | $125 per month | Annual contract only |
| Usage | Included, with a limit per member: 1.25 times Pro's usage per session | Included: 6.25 times Pro's usage per session | Not included. All usage at API rates, with no per-seat limit |
| Payment | Credit card | Credit card | Card or ACH. Through sales also by invoice and in other currencies |
| Training on your data | "None by default" | "None by default" | "None by default" |
You can mix Standard and Premium seats in one Team, so Premium goes only to the people who work with it heavily every day.
On Team you pay a fixed price per seat. On Enterprise you pay for the seat and then for every use.
What Team does not have
The pricing page and the help article on Enterprise list these features for Enterprise only:
| Feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| SCIM | Users are created and removed automatically from your identity provider, for example Microsoft Entra ID. With Entra ID the sync runs roughly every 40 minutes |
| Audit logs | A record of user actions, system events and data access, for your IT team or your auditor |
| Compliance API | Programmatic access to activity logs, chat histories and file content, filterable by user and time range |
| Custom data retention | Controls that let you decide how long data is kept |
| Role-based access and custom roles | Permissions per group, beyond the fixed roles of Team |
| Customer-managed encryption keys | A key in your own cloud that Anthropic uses to protect your chats, projects and files |
Single sign-on is listed under Team on the pricing page. If all you want is central login, you do not need Enterprise for it.
The roles in Team, and why the Owner matters
Team has four roles: User, Admin, Owner and Primary Owner. There is only one Primary Owner. That role uses a seat and can be a service account. Billing and seat numbers sit with the Owners and the Primary Owner. Usage analytics are visible to Admins and Owners. Custom roles exist only on Enterprise.
That looks like a detail until the only person who could change the billing leaves the company. So decide before you start who becomes Primary Owner. A service account in the company's name, managed by someone who is staying, is often the calmest choice.
From practice, not from a vendor page: whoever sets up the workspace for you gets Owner rights for a while and hands them back afterwards. Agree in advance who becomes Owner on your side, and write into the handover that the temporary rights have been removed.
Two worked examples
Based on the public list prices, excluding tax:
| 5 Standard seats | 15 Standard seats | |
|---|---|---|
| Billed annually | 5 × $20 × 12 = $1,200 per year | 15 × $20 × 12 = $3,600 per year |
| Billed monthly | 5 × $25 = $125 per month, or $1,500 per year | 15 × $25 = $375 per month, or $4,500 per year |
For comparison, Enterprise at the minimum of 20 seats costs 20 × $20 × 12 = $4,800 a year in seat fees alone. All usage at API rates comes on top. On Enterprise you can set spend limits per organisation or per user.
Watch how Team bills, too. An extra seat is charged straight away, prorated. Removing a member gives no refund: the seat stays free for someone else. So start with the people who will actually use it, and add seats when the usage is there.
Team also includes monthly credits for the Claude API. They build up per seat in one pool for the whole team, capped at $500 a month.
When to start on Team, and when to move up
Start on Team if you have fewer than 150 people, if central login and central billing are enough, and if you first want to see which processes Claude really takes over. For most SMEs that is the situation.
Look at Enterprise if your IT team wants to manage users through SCIM, if an auditor or a client asks for audit logs, if your policy requires a fixed retention period, or if you want custom roles per department.
You can move later. According to Anthropic you convert the same organisation, and chats, projects, members and roles are kept. What to know beforehand:
- A self-serve move needs at least 20 seats and cannot be reversed.
- Some features are off by default after the move, such as skills, code execution and file creation, and Claude in Chrome. An admin has to switch them back on.
- Team's monthly API credits stop on Enterprise. Unused Team usage credits do carry over.
What to watch
- Feedback can still be used. Chats on Team and Enterprise are not used to train models by default. If someone rates an answer with a thumbs up or down, that feedback can be used and kept for up to five years. An Owner or Primary Owner turns this off with "Rate chats" under Organization settings, Data and Privacy.
- Your role under the GDPR. On Team and Enterprise you are the controller and Anthropic is the processor, under the Commercial Terms. Read your own terms.
- Prices in euros. For Team, claude.ai/upgrade shows the price for your region. Self-serve Enterprise is in US dollars only. For another currency, contact sales.
This series
This is the first part of Claude for teams, a series on setting up Claude for a whole company. Later parts cover, among other things, the first two weeks of a rollout, the GDPR and the data processing agreement, and the choice between Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot. We already set out that choice in Claude vs Copilot vs ChatGPT.
Not sure whether you need Team or Enterprise? In the Kickstart we choose the plan with you and set it up on your own accounts. Two weeks, €4,500 excl. VAT. How we go about it is on our Claude page.
