Cancelling seats and composing your own applications turns a fixed cost into a variable one. That is an improvement. It is also a new meter, and the meter has no seat count to cap it.

You did not choose a model provider. You accumulated one.
Composition made applications cheap to build, and cheap building accumulates. What accumulated underneath it is one supplier's availability, pricing and policy — sitting on business processes rather than beside them. The fix is commodity infrastructure and two columns in a register. The reason to do it this quarter is that somebody else will price the dependency if you do not.
